The Australian Orthopaedic Association National Joint Replacement Registry (AOANJRR) is an initiative of the Australian Orthopaedic Association (AOA). The AOANJRR was established in 1999 becoming fully national in mid 2002. The purpose of the AOANJRR is to improve and maintain the quality of care for individuals receiving joint replacement surgery. Information on hip, knee, shoulder, elbow, wrist, ankle and spinal disc replacement is collected from all hospitals in Australia undertaking joint replacement surgery.

The AOANJRR is entirely funded by the Commonwealth Department of Health.

2015 Annual and Supplementary Reports

The 2015 Annual Report on Hip and Knee Arthroplasty is now available. This year the Registry is publishing its findings on over 988,667 primary and revision procedures undertaken between 1 September 1999 and 31 December 2014. Each year the AOANJRR Annual Report sets out to provide new information as well as update and expand on data provided in previous reports. In this report, the AOANJRR is presenting a more detailed analysis on the outcome of revision surgery in the feature chapter ‘Revision Joint Replacement'. In addition, new analyses on primary hip replacement includes information on the outcome of mini femoral stems, as well as constrained and dual mobility acetabular components. In knee replacement, for the first time the AOANJRR is presenting the outcome of lateral unicompartmental knee replacement and the effect of fixation on minimally and posterior stabilised primary total knee replacement. The chapter on ten year outcomes for hip and knee prostheses combinations is again presented.
The 2015 Shoulder Arthroplasty Annual Report is also available. In this report, the AOANJRR is reporting on 27,236 shoulder procedures and presents outcomes data with a follow up period of eight years.
The AOANJRR is also publishing 14 supplementary reports which are available as web reports. Another report that may be of particular interest to joint replacement patients is the Lay Summary. This report explains the results published in the hip and knee report in a clear, concise and easily understood manner.
All reports are publicly available by selecting the ‘Publications' tab on the Menu ribbon.
